Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
So...captivating?
Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
haha, assholes
I think after I bought all the tools to do that I could have just ordered the OEM ones, I'm also very OCD about them being perfect and I don't have faith in myself with scissors. Really good idea though!

Hitting the Dyno this coming Tuesday, I'll make sure to post up the results here as well as the FB group.
I took it driving around behind my house with the autotune for about an hour last Saturday. It got to feeling pretty good at partial throttle but that was about it. I have to pick up a battery tie down, fix the LED blinker issue and get my TPS clip in the mail then I should be able to drive it around after the tune.
If I don't hit atleast 170hp I am going to be severely disappointed.

Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
even if you don't hit 170 hp you built it and it runs. That's the primary goal here is to enjoy the car you built.

Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
I post here and on the AE86 Texas FB page, I post more details here and just big updates in the FB group.
I agree 86boy, but I want that POOOWWAAAAA!!!!!!!! I've already enjoyed just driving it the few blocks down the street.
That being said, I fired up the Auto tune software today and drove it for about a half hour up and down the street. It felt really good, I can't wait to get it tuned, registered and inspected.

Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
Got to the shop around 3pm, we hung out for a bit and was just checking out cars and the current car on the dyno until our time came up. The guys in front of us ran super late and we ended up not getting on the dyno until almost 8pm.
They had fuel issues from the start and the AFR would not hold steady. It looked like the 30 year old fuel pump just wasn't holding up to the task. He had to tune it basically cell by cell due to the fuel pump and it took a very long time.
We eventually started getting some pulls in but the power just falling off hard at 4500rpm. We messed with the intake cam a bit and the power finally started pushing to 6500rpm where it would just die off again. He had some ideas he wanted to try and then my brand new starter died (By far the worst thing about this car). We spent a good 40 minutes just trying to get the car to start again. After it miraculously started we were able to get one last pull in that helped out the midrange area.
At this point we did not want to turn it off, which in turn kept us from being able to make any adjustments to the cams. I took it for a drive before he closed up shop and it felt better than it ever has but I was still disappointed.
I decided to drive it home so my friend wouldn't have to drive so far with it being so late. Well, the damn headlight switch went out on the way home and I had to hold the wires in a certain spot the entire way home so I wouldn't get pulled over, it completely ruined the perfect weather and a nice drive. The current power will have to due for now until I can get some other things done.
Final numbers
118whp and 115tq (Mustang Dyno numbers)
132whp and 128tq (12% added to convert to Dynojet)

Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
I truly appreciate honest numbers but proper tuning goes a long way. I'm sure you will be able to get more hp with your set up. if you don't mind, how much was the dyno session?
Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
I think so as well, too many factors were screwing me yesterday.
It was a $500 flat rate, no matter how long it takes. Guy really knew his stuff just sucked I had issues that we could do nothing about.

good to know man thanks. if it cost that much, then Id have to make sure everything is up to par before tuning. My engine is running but I still have a ways to go before dyno runs.
Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
Yea, definitely because some shops charge per hour.

Re: A new build......seriously the stuff of legend
So, went and got the car registered and inspected on Tuesday. Went home, switched out the stickers and went to take it on a cruise and it started knocking like crazy about a block from the house.
Thinking I spun a bearing, going to take it to a machine shop get some more head work done and let them check all the clearances. This could explain why it put down so little power.
While it's down I'm going to go ahead and swap out the clutch master cylinder and upgrade the fuel pump and fuel filter. I"ll post more updates as they come.
