Dexter Trailer build

Post by hvguy »

Picked it up from the coast for free.

It was pretty rusted, but nothing 8 cans of primer and a day of wire brushing couldn't handle.

Reinforced in 3 places with 3.5" emergency sprinkler pipe courtesy from somewhere around here.
Put 2" angle railing on the sides for straps to hook onto.
Picked up a warn m8274 winch from the scrap yard and rebuilt it, and just got done welding the mount to tongue. I also came across 4 trojan MEGA deep cycle golf cart batteries that are only a year old on craigslist for 100$ Those happened to fit in the A-frame at the front.

Overall it has cost me ~ 250$ to get it where it is now.

Woot. Im not sure what im going to do for flooring.... I might just throw plywood on it till I have enough to floor it the right way when I get back in town.

I still have to wire in both sets of brakes, and I still need to get a brake controller and lights before I go.

I went to test my winch.... and it took a shit..

After being 32 years old...

Painted the wheels.... they were pretty nasty, patched some tires I found.... that happened to be some BFgoodrich KO All Terrain's.... heh.
And got new shocks.

And now im almost done with the deck. The wood I got was sooo bent and mis-shaped; it took a ratchet strap and 3/8 bolts to get it kinda straightened out.

Lol, yeah. I HAVE to invest in a weight distribution and anti-sway kit after I get back.

I primered it with Heavy rust Rustoleum. Then followed that with some Gloss black enamel from rustoleum. Then while it was wet, coated it with some high-gloss metal flake. But I ran out on the first 2. And im broke now that I had to do the flooring.

But that aside: I just got back from the K-mart parkinglot "they keep their lights on at night" Had the generator and drill going at the last 48 holes...
BUT ITS DONE!!!
Just gotta put the last 12 bolts in. "2 person job"

Ill post pics tomorrow when its light out.

Actually I can fit an FC and a ae86 on there within 1 inch.

BTW, the pinion gear on the winch broke in half.... so I cleaned it up and brazed it back together. It works... for now.

Image

And here's the FC on the trailer... I had it too far forward, so the 4runner was a bit crouched down. Itll even out when I put it on the back, backwards.

here is the winch after I finally got it fixed, and re-wired, and sealed.
