Winch rebuild

Post by hvguy »

Finally got my winch parts in... Here's how it went down.

I bandaged the upper housing so it would work temporarily. It broke, so I bought a new one through a guy in cali. He ordered it from his distributor, then that guy got it from warn. Well, the day he ordered it he got a confirmation that it was shipped. "that was on tuesday and they ship it overnight to my house" I called him friday in disappointment. He called his distributor and then that guy called warn. Warn said they didn't even get a work order for it. wtf

So finally he re-ordered it and it got here today.
I get up and go outside around 3 and start working on the winch. About an hour later, I break for lunch. Come outside 30 minutes later and it start raining cats and dogs. "We haven't had a drop of rain in over a month"

Rain stops and I finish the assembly around 9:00. I get out my scale and get ready to test its pulling power. Click it on and start winching. "I'm hiding under the trailer in case the cable snaps" It gets to 7500 and SNAP!! The cable comes hauling ass down the trailer and hits my arm.... Shit that hurts.

Ill get pics of it all after I get done with tonight. Iv'e got to go braze the cable back together. Good thing 100ft of 1/2" aircraft cable is only 100$
I still plan on buying a new motor, pinion gear and cable for it asap.

Not thick enough when it snapped at 7.5k.

But I put a 25ft remote on it so I can stand CLEAR out of the way.
