mooreofit wrote:it sounds like the fuel pump is going out. i bet pressure is there and volume is not. i only say this because if you wait a second then crank it tries to fire up but if you keep cranking nothing happens, let it sit again and it tries to fire. undo the pressure line to the fuel rail and check for pressure and volume.
how do i do that? where is the fuel rail?

undo the pressure line on the rail above the injectors on the intake.

so it could either be a fuel pump, the ignitor, or the spark plugs?

it could be alot of things. first check for spark. crank the motor over with one plug out and see if its sparking. then smell the cylinder for fuel. if theres no spark. figure that out. if theres no gas then figure that out. dont forget about compression.

wow. i think you should save up some cash and take it somewhere and have it fixed. or try to find someone local to come down and help you out. undoing the fuel line and activating the pump can be messy if you dont know what your doing.and could possibly cause a fire in the right conditions.

now try this, spray starting fluid down the intake while cranking. make sure you remove the aircleaner while performing this test. if it fires up and runs as long as your spraying the fluid then its your fuel pump. you can aslo tap on the gas tank with a hammer, sometimes it will free the pump up. dont forget to try and listen for the fuel pump when you first roll the key to accessory position. if you cant hear it whine for a second its not working.

Check just in case
Just cuz your gas gauge says full
It doesnt mean your tank is
It's a old car

TG

have you already gone down the list of tests:
1) check for spark: unplug a cable from spark plug one, insert screw driver in plug wire and set close to a ground point. have someone try to turn the car over and watch for the arc from the screw driver to the ground point (e.g. one of the bolts on the upper strut mount)

if you have spark then...
2) check for fuel: disconnect the banjo bolt from front of the fuel rail (side closest to the front of the car). have a rag and/or container handy to catch fuel. have someone try to turn the car over to check that fuel is flowing through the hose.

check that all fuses are good both in the engine bay fuse block as well in the driver side kick panel. double-check if you've checked once.

then try jumping it. if it starts up and runs after jumping then the battery has no juice to crank her up. if jumping it doesn't get her started than you know it's not the battery.
