Dexter Trailer build
Its gonna have to get the hell over it. But I plan on putting my toolbox on the tail of the trailer with the rx7 backwards on the back, and load all of my boxes into the rx7, and the rest in the corolla.Overdrift wrote:i dont think the 4runner will be happy pulling both cars, that trailer, and all your stuff.
Should be looking better in no time.
But a simple weight distribution kit will fix all of this. But I dont think I can afford one right now.... unless this job im doing pays off a bit better than I anticipated.

UPDATE:
Just got the controller wired in and ran the dedicated wires to the back. Took it for a test drive..... DAMN!@!!!! Keep in mind this trailer was MFG'd on October 28th 1980!!! That's older than my starlet! This means I need to get antique tags for it.
But yeah, I went cruising around with the controller set to 4.6 "out of 20" Just to get the rust off. Then as I was going through a walmart parkinglot I reached over and cranked it up to 20 "max" and smashed the over-ride lever and locked up all 4 tires. BWAHAHAHAH! IT WORKS!
Im satisfied.
Im planning on borrowing a few bucks and finishing the wiring tomorrow, but not before I finish my business at the JY.

excellent. I love brake checking the trailer with unaware people around... they always freak out when they hear tires locking up and a trailer trying to jump.
4.6 out of 20 is ok, the control units I am familiar with have a 1-10 setting, normally 2-3 is good for empty trailers. I still think it is awesome you have brakes on both axles.
I think the over ride spring button is non dependent on the controller power adjustment. At least on what I have used. Still big rigs ftw, they have air operated rear brakes with a lever like a turn signal or tilt wheel adjust lever near the steering wheel to activate the trailer brakes without hitting the brake petal. My friend almost uses 100% trailer brakes whenever possible when driving his truck and a company trailer.

Hell yeah, forget using your brakes and burning up your cash, use the company's.Overdrift wrote:My friend almost uses 100% trailer brakes whenever possible when driving his truck and a company trailer.
But the over-ride switch is limited to what you have set to the maximum. Kinda lame, but it keeps you from locking the trailer up and going outta control.

There appears to be a 3 day delay on my trip..... The f-bombing warehouse that shipping my winch parts took a shit and lost it... but guaranteed it by friday. But the scrap yard is closed on the weekends like little pussies. So ill have to wait till monday for my $$

Here's the deal on the weight distribution kit. Plus dual sway cams.
Got it for 400. Some of it is used, so it saved me a little. Still feel like I got f-bombed.
I got half of it installed tonight at the K-mart parking lot. But then some guys rolled up in a 280z and started talking with me... long story short, we played airsoft for the rest of the night.
Here's the kit pix.
I cant wait for somebody to rear-end me with this hitch on.
