4age with edis on a budget

Post by mbehrens »

like title says lol... budget so i have accumilated some edis parts thanks to a friend from the forum. who sent me a e.d.i.s 4 (electric destributerless ignition system 4 cylynder) and coil back. and i have a 99 ford reanger v6 in my back yard so i pulled the trigger wheel and the vrs (Veriable relucter sensor).
you can get the VRS and trigger wheel from 1.9l during 90-93 v6 rangers 98-200x and v8 i think the 4.6 .

edis modual and coil pack you can get of 1.9l motors .

or you can buy them all at the parts store and trigger wheel varias companys make them..

i am doing this build using stock pullies no after market pullies becuase im broke lol...

no paying labor because i cant pay myself im that broke lol.. j.k.

i will be using a megasquirt to run the motor .

pictures soon computer difficulties.

here are some things that might help if you want to do this edis conversion

its cast irn and will crack and seperate under descent loads. you need to find a way(tapping a hole and bolting it)to lacate it strongly before welding it. ( i found out the hard way.)

as per brentp:"The crank pulley was machined down to accommodate the timing wheel from a 1997 Ford Escort, and then tack welded in place. "

hope that helps guys.

Just curious but does this eleminate the need for a distributer? What gains does this have over stock? More Hp? More Torque? I really dont know much about this.

not much of a diffrence only gets rid of the distributor. the coil packs does give a hotter spark voltage so more gas burnage thats about it lol...

programmable EDIS will be far more accurate (the differences maybe negligible but still, more accuracy is better).
