Brake boosters

Post by JDMwhiteboy »

Ok fyi the coupe brake bosters are different then hatchbacks. Oreillys can only get the hatchbacks but autozone can get both of then. I myself is finding this out with my car apart in my drive way and bt20v driving me around. All in preps for 86day -_-

Be careful when you get stuff for the hatchback at autozone. They have a hatchback listed, but most of the parts are not for the RWD AE86. They're for the FWD lift back. I would stick with the coupe part number. The reason why they aren't the same part number is because it's probably not the right booster listed under "hatchback".

^ what he said. In most parts systems:

The AE86 "hatchback" is usually listed as 3-door sport COUPE.

Corolla hatchback is usually the AE82 5 door wagon.

again +1 for both guys above.

the coupe is going to be your safest bet when picking up parts from your local auto parts store.

That's not to say there aren't other brake boosters you can use. There are some other Toyota models that have compatible boosters. It probably won't make much of a difference if you're purchasing them new, but the junkyard may have boosters other than the AE86 ones that you can use.

If you're looking for a booster I have one I removed from my car.

also, if you're not diswayed by a little challenge you can for example use a starlet brake booster which the diameter is narrower than that of the 86 but makes up for it in a deeper canister. the firewall bolt pattern is different but it's not anything a handy person would flinch at.

Thanks for the help, Luckly bt20v had an extra one so we got that in there. We were talking and the corolla brakebooster did look like the one out of his 4runner. Maybe on an off day we might experiment
