Blow Through Carbs: Progressive Vs Side Draft

Post by B.Lane 88. »

Ok guys so I am just wondering if there would be enough HP gains to make the it worth the hassle to change out the progressive carb on my

turbo 7ac set up with side draft ones.

I have everything I need to finish the build with the progressive carb so I am defiantly going to start there

however, I keep seeing weber side drafts and they seem great.

I know they make more horse power in a NA build so I would expect they would in a turbo build as well.

I just dont know if its worth messing with after I already have everything working.

The cons would be that I have to find a HKS 4ac intake manifold, and I would have to tune more carbs and seal an extra throttle shaft, build a

new intake plenum and the cost of the new parts. The pros would be more horse power and ?

Giving each cylinder its own fuel & air feed will always out perform a communal single carb setup.

Pretty much right on the money. Now about how much boost are you planing on running?

I wouldn't boost thru a webber, all my research says they are not the best choice. They may need to be a sealed box so the carb itself is pressurized-think about how big a pita that would be to build, install and tune the carbs.Webbers are expensive, haven't been made forever, parts aren't that easy to obtain and they aren't easy to tune and sounds like they go out of tune often.
I'd use late model CV bike/sled carbs, they're cheap, are the last generation of carbs used pretty much anywhere, offer great drivability with the CV slides, jets can be bought at any bike/sled shop for peanuts, easy to tune(tuning with choke horn sizes and emulsion tubes PLUS jets sounds like no fun the me)and work perfectly fine in a blow thru set-up.

Here's mine using RX1 carbs(sled for those in the south).

And a quick in-car at 14lbs of boost,
