go on ebay and obx sells a stainless exhaust flange for the 4age engines for like 25 bucks...go on jegs and order some stainless mandrel bend tubes u will need a straight piece two 90's and two small straights which u can cut off the larger straight piece...tubing will cost you under 50dollars...then order a flange from obx that matches whatever turbo you have...usually a t25/28 flange is about 20 bucks...less than an hour of work once u have the pieces and there u have a custom log mani for just under 100bills
Not gonna happen. If parts are that cheap, what do you think the quality is going to be like? Once you heat load that material it's going to fail. OBX should be last resort. Few of their products are decent. Sorry but true. :(

i just went ahead and bought a u-build-it log manifold and it looks good and was easy to fab up

not done yet. Just have to weld on the t25 flange and it's good

So are we going to see a build or progress thread on the purple gumball or what?

he's talking about flanges not the whole header. if theres an issue with the flange its nothing a mill cant fix.ive been running ssac's on my m.c. for a couple years now. a couple leaks hear and there but its not like the flanges are disintergrating into a pile of dust or anything.

No but I do see enough of them and the results to know not to use them. Also, they are junk... They're not even close to low grade stainless. Their metallurgical composition is horrible. Barely any chromium content, the metal mix is crap and very porous which means it's lightweight and weak. Good quality stainless is heavy and should be.

I'm pretty sure his motor isn't going to be pushed to the limits, but some of the engines I build are pushed hard. When you have 2,200*F exhaust gas temps and an engine wrapped out at +8,000 RPMs, things tend to break down and/or melt rather quickly. SSAC is the first to go. I have to find it but I have a SSAC flange that blew a hole out the side of it.

I'm just stating my professional observations, but if he want to use it, by all means go for it. All I'm sayin is I wouldn't and stated my reasons why.

I've seen one, I've seen all.

I've never seen Rob drive but I'm sure he's on it all day with the RPM needle pegged out for long periods of time. It's not too bad N/A but when boosted, that's a whole new ball game...

i would look more at my afr and my timing if im blowing out flanges. more timing makes more power than less timing more boost. and no timing = melted and overstressed exhaust components. not as big of a problem with supercharged cars is maybe why im not having many issues with mine. but im only running 12* at wot and still no issues with a 450ft# or so motor.and i beat the shit out of it.

p.s. im not defending ssac. ive had problems with their fabrication work before and ill probably never deal with them again.the tubing they use for their turbo stuff is way to thin.but just saying there stuff is not as bad as whats being thrown around on the internet.

I completely understand. But!!!...

For example, since this is current on my list and I was tinkering with it today, '07 Mazdaspeed 3, 10.5:1 - 11.5:1 AFRs, 41 psi boost, 26 degrees of timing (yes, 26), 620 FWHP... !/2" thick flanges, schedule 40, 1.625" ID runners, 46mm Tial WG... 29 lbs of raw stainless quality. That's heavy for a manifold. Zero cracks but glows cherry red when under boost. These conditions are desired not accidental, but look at what's being accomplished. SSAC or anything that remotely represents their quality level, is most definantely not going to last here.

That 12 degrees in what's saving you, but again I understand you're not trying to push the envelope to the extreme. For your case or anyone that's willing to give them a shot, go for it. :D

lol.... this thread up! just to clarify this motor, as everything else i drive, will be pushed to the absolute limit and will be hung on limiter all day ha ha

also, i will update my thread one day when i actually start doing something with the car again. i haven't started the car since i pulled it off the trailer after round 2 lol and i just got back from Florida

with that kind of weight support for the the manifold and turbo should be applied so the load is placed on the supports and not flange or tubing. with that kind of power its going to glow great numbers. what turbo? and knock monitoring?
